According to Steve Kilpatrick, photographer and co-owner of Colorful Things Photography at Edisto Beach, SC, a lot of “catching the right moment” in nature photography is being in the right place at the right time. This concept of “catching the right moment” is even more important with family and wedding photography where special moments disappear quickly. Steve's photography is a lot about working hard to catch those special moments. Like most professional photographers, he has shot thousands of film, slides, and digital images striving to capture those special moments that become treasures with time.
Steve became fascinated with photography and cameras after he purchased his first SLR camera from Sears when he was 12 years old. He grew up in the mountains of North Carolina where landscape and wildlife photography was fun but challenging. Steve's bird photographs have been South Carolina Wildlife Magazine award winners and have been published in "The Chat" a birding publication and on the Carolina Birding Club web site.
Dianna is an artist, photographer, and co-owner of Colorful Things Photography. She utilizes her artistic talents in editing images and in post production creating beautiful custom albums and coffee-table books. Although she enjoys photography, her first love is painting which has included a variety of media: pencil, pen and ink, oils, watercolor still lifes and landscapes as well as pastel portraits.
In 2003, she turned her attention to acrylic painting. Now, in the off-season she focuses on adding to her series of beach themed, hand-painted Christmas ornaments. The series, entitled Coastal Collection Ornaments, is in its 12th year. Her ornaments are in demand by collectors throughout the Carolinas.
Steve and Dianna are members of WPPI, NAPP, the Edisto Art Guild, the Edisto Chamber of Commerce, and are involved as photography instructors for the Santee Birding Festival at Santee NWR, Santee, SC.
